Apraxia of Speech in Adults
Apraxia of speech affects an adult’s ability to receive messages from the brain due to brain damage. There are two different types of Apraxia: verbal (or acquired) and limb. Verbal apraxia affects the ability to say speech sounds correctly. An adult with Apraxia may know what they want to say, but they will have difficulty articulating the correct sounds, which can be frustrating. Treatment focuses on improving the motor movements to increase correct speech productions.
